MLM Sponsoring and Recruiting is not Enough!

MLM Recruiting is not enough!

“My team isn’t duplicating”, “Drop outs are killing my business”, “Why doesn’t my downline grow?”

If you are asking yourself these questions on a regular basis, there could be a huge piece of your marketing process missing.

There are thousands of great recruiters out there in online marketing. True enough. I know people that can recruit new members like clockwork. Good for them. However, more often than not, after a few months they’re still at the same position financially they were at after their first month in the business.

Why is this? You bring in new people no problem, but a good percentage of those new people quit before any sustainability is reached within their teams. This has always been a HUGE issue in internet MLM in particular.

The reason for this is fairly straightforward, and if you really want to build an “MLM” business as opposed to just working a “job”, you need to take the initiative in solving this problem. If you don’t, you will continue to just be a salesman, with no passive income attached. Sounds like a drag to me.

Here’s a hint: The “company” cannot do it for you.

Regardless of whether or not your business is in online MLM, YOU still have to make the connection between you and your new referrals.

And the most important time to do this is immediately after they join you. Immediately, not in a week, not next month, right now!

There should be a few “connection” steps you take right after your new referral joins your business.

1a. Contact them on the phone. Yes, I said “the phone” (*groan*). I know this is the internet but this is NOT a cold call. They’ve already joined YOU, now you just have to call and say “hi”.

1b. Get them on Facebook and introduce them to your sponsor on Facebook as well.

2. Contact YOUR sponsor and have them call your new referral as well to welcome them to the team. Do a 3-way call if possible so you can both be in on the conversation.

Note: All this “phone” stuff can be done through Skype as well. Make sure it’s a voice chat, text and smilies doesn’t have the same effect.

3. Send them to your own personal training content, or some sort of ‘fast start’ training that one of your uplines has created. Or at least make sure they know where to find the company’s training area. You can also send them links to some good informational content that YOU find useful when building your business.

4. After they’ve gone through the training, contact them again on the phone and then work up a simple strategy with them on how you’re going to help them get started immediately. If YOU don’t know how, FIND OUT how. Set up a webinar with your own sponsor to connect this way if you don’t want to do it yourself.

If you just do these simple things, I GUARANTEE you will have helped that person MORE than anyone else has EVER done on the internet for them. And they will stick with you forever.

Can you recruit people without using the phone? Yes.

Can you keep a team together without using the phone? Not nearly as successfully as you could if you just give them a call.

Honestly, if you want to be a successful network marketer, and not just an internet salesman, you have to connect. If you ask anyone that is making a lot of money in network marketing they will tell you how absolutely necessary this is.

Remember, I’m not asking you to call your leads, I’m just asking you to connect with your new referrals. It is “partnerships” that make this business work, not avoiding them.

Thanks,

- Geoff Stephen

  • Good Stuff, as always Geoff!

This is something I must work on. I am ‘kinda shy’ and not real comfortable at ‘calling myself a leader’

I know I don’t know it all, and am always learning, so that is why I always read your blog as well.

But the bottom line is, you just paid me $20 as a bonus for referring 4 new members that upgraded to Director last month, so something is working.

Now if I could just get them (my team) to do what I am doing…duplicate…

But maybe I can’t even get 4 new members this month….

But if I can get 1….and show them the ‘Power of One”…it would be a lot more than 48K per year with the $25 Director commission as opposed to the $5 Pro…

BTW…48K is just under $1000 per week for the year…Director’s machine talks of $1000 per month…

But my point is …find something that works and keep expanding on it….

And it sounds like FaceBook and the phone are two great ways!

    Thanks for your great advice!

      Steven,

Honestly, recruiting is the “easy” part. It’s keeping your team together that’s the hard part.

Communication and support is key to long term success in this crazy biz. Keep it up!

    Hi there Geoff…

one of the best posts on retention I have ever read – seriously!!

If people cannot communicate then they miss out . Network marketing is all about building relationships!

SKYPE is an ideal FREE communication media, our team use it all the time. We are all over the world – so SKYPE is fantastic for staying in touch….. you can also use it for screen sharing too….. an excellent tool!

Thanks again, Geoff… I hope my team are reading your post and taking in all that great advice.

  • Interesting post Geoff! Phone is definitely underutilized in the Internet MLM world. We use skype all the time to connect with our referrals and it has really paid some dividends! However, not everyone feels that same level of commitment back unfortunately. But, our goal is to work with the “cream of the crop”. We figure the leaders will work their way up to the top of the chain and contact us back.

We tend to always contact our referrals right away with all of our contact information (phone, email, social media, and websites). The people that reach back out are the ones that have been with us the longest!

Thanks for all that you do! This business has got to be about better communication skills!

      Hi, thanks for the comment.

There is actually a huge difference between using skype and using the phone. The phone will get you on a more personal level with your downlines, and ultimately will get more of a commitment from them.

If you have the choice between skype and the phone, use the phone.

  • Hi Geoff,
Like a lot of networkers I did not like using the phone to call prospects.
When I was introduced to the internet I thought …great! no more phone calls…. how wrong I was.

    Great advise thanks for sharing.
    Cheers

      Hi Bryan,

You can do a lot of the recruiting without the phone, but actually building a networking business successfully and long-term requires a more personal approach. Use the phone.
